Hello Poteau!
Most of you know me as Connie Shockley and for those that are new to me and my page, Welcome! I am happy to have you! I am journeying towards maintaining my council seat on the Poteau City Council for Ward 3 in the upcoming election on April 4th, 2023.
I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of my story with you and why I am qualified for this position.
I have been heavily involved and invested in the City of Poteau for almost 3 decades. I am the widow of Jeff Shockley, who was the Mayor of Poteau for 20 years and a council member for 6 years prior to mayoring. During his tenure, I was involved in the city politics alongside him or behind the scenes pushing him along.
I was appointed to the City Council in August of 2021 for Ward 3 to work alongside the Mayor overseeing a working budget for the City of Poteau, Poteau Industrial Authority and Poteau Public Works Authority. Council members provide insight and make decisions to govern the city business and I am grateful to be a part of it.
▪️ I currently serve as the Vice-Mayor of the council and am on the following council committees: Finance, Personnel, Insurance, Police and Fire (Public Safety), Pool, Economic Development and Donald W Reynolds Community Center.
▪️ I serve as a Board Trustee for the LeFlore County Development Coalition.
▪️ Volunteer for Poteau Balloonfest since inception and volunteer for numerous Chamber events and DWRCC events.
▪️ Employed with Heavener Public Schools as Director of Finance/Treasurer for 29 years.
▪️ Employed with Monroe Public Schools as Treasurer for 12 years.
Along with these accomplishments, I am blessed with a wonderful and beautiful family: My children and their spouses, Tyler & Sidni Shockley, Taylor & Taylor Shockley, and Brooke & Paul Mason; My grandkids: Joel, Jenna, Liam, Treven & Holden; My parents, Ike & Barbara Caudell, and brother and sister in law, Ikie & Kathy Caudell.
I have and will always be very passionate about the growth of Poteau. I look forward to continuing serving our community.
