Women’s Crisis Services of LeFlore County celebrated the opening of their new Hope Restored Building Thursday, October 10, 2024. On hand were representatives from Cornerstone Building Brands and Mueller,Inc Helping Hands as well as the Mueller volunteers that actually constructed the building in less than three days. Also in attendance were State Representative Rick West, (R-Heavener), Choctaw Nation Councilman Jess Henry, Poteau City Councilwoman Connie Shockley, the Child Advocacy Network (CAN) and Women’s Crisis Services of LeFlore County (WCS) Board Members, and various community members.
Bethany Black, WCS Executive Director, applied for the grant for the building and said she, “might have screamed really loud” when she received the news of the award. The grant covered the metal building materials and the labor of installing the building. Everything else from the dirt work to concrete to plumbing and electrical has to be in place before the builders begin their work. Black contacted Jeremy Voss at New Oak Construction and he made things happen. “They were moving dirt, they were bringing in shale, they were pouring concrete,” Black said. “Jeremy has been my right hand, he’s been everything that I’ve needed, so I would like to say, ‘Jeremy at New Oak Construction, thank you so much because we couldn’t be where we are, to be prepared for them without you.” Black also thanked the Choctaw Nation, The Community State Bank, Ron’s Lumber, and “everyone else who has had a part of this”.
Other sponsors for the project include Arvest Foundation, Taliano’s Italian Restaurant, 6:33 Recovery, ReMax Executives Real Estate–David Turner, Realtor, Philip David Rawlings Memorial Fund, Rough Day Brew Co, Mitchell Rentals, Kiamichi Tech, Tony’s Plumbing, La Huerta Mexican Restaurant, Twin Cities Ready Mix, Inc, Enviro Termite & Pest Control, Central National Bank, Top to Bottom Tree Service, Fesperman Family Foundation, Little Acres, PJ Brown, Robinson Construction, LLC, Grace Harmon Trucking, and Coffee Cup.
