Kiamichi Tech to Host Building Dedication Ceremony Honoring Dr. Phil Chitwood

POTEAU, OKLA. — Kiamichi Tech invites the community to join in a special dedication ceremony honoring Dr. Phil Chitwood and his enduring impact on career and technical education in southeast Oklahoma. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the newly named Dr. Phil Chitwood Health Science Center, located at 1509 S. McKenna Street, Poteau, OK.

In recognition of Dr. Chitwood’s 20 years of leadership and distinguished service on the Kiamichi Tech Board of Education, the Health Science building at the Poteau Campus has been renamed in his honor. His vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment left a lasting legacy that continues to shape the futures of students, staff, and communities across southeast Oklahoma.

“Dr. Chitwood’s influence on Kiamichi Tech and the students we serve is immeasurable,” said Kiamichi Tech Superintendent Shelley Free. “His passion for education, dedication to student success, and steadfast leadership have made an impact that will benefit generations to come. It is our privilege to honor his extraordinary service through the naming of the Dr. Phil Chitwood Health Science Center.”

The event is free and open to the public. Community members, alumni, students, and friends of Kiamichi Tech are encouraged to attend and celebrate this special recognition.
