Press release

Kiamichi Technology Centers (KTC) received the Gold Star Award at the 51st Annual Oklahoma Career and Technology Education Summer Conference held this year at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This award is designed to recognize technology center districts that have met rigid and demanding criteria demonstrating a high level of excellence. This award provides recognition to districts with exemplary programs designed to meet a broad spectrum of community needs.

“It is an honor for our school to receive the Gold Star Award,” said Shelley Free, KTC’s Superintendent. “The award is a special achievement for our staff, board members and the communities served by Kiamichi Technology Centers. Our staff works diligently to meet the established Gold Star requirements, but we know we could not have received this award without the support of the local stakeholders who attend our classes, utilize our services and support our mission.”

Kiamichi’s district was established in 1967, and was the first multi-campus technology center in the state with campuses located at Hugo, Poteau, McAlester, Atoka, Durant, Spiro, Idabel, McAlester, Stigler, Talihina, Antlers, and an Administration Office in Wilburton. It is the largest technology center district in Oklahoma, encompassing more than 11,200 square miles, serving 10 full counties, parts of three other counties, and 89 school districts within those counties.

Last year, Kiamichi Technology Centers served nearly 22,000 students.

Kiamichi Technology Centers’ Mission is “Preparing People for Success.” For information on KTC and the wide variety of services offered, call (918) 465-2323 or visit KTC on the web at www.ktc.edu
