Thanks to a partnership with City Tele Coin (CTC), inmates at the LeFlore County Detention Center have another means of communicating with their families according to the new Jail Administrator, Michael Jackson. According to Jackson CTC has provided Tablets for the inmates to use, at no cost to the county.
CTC provides phone Kiosks for the inmates. But sometimes, there are long lines and inmates have to wait a long time before they can use the phone. These Tablets will help relieve some of the stress they are already feeling. “The goal is give those in the jail the ability to have a better quality of life and decrease “friction in the jail”, said Jackson “With only one telephone available, these tablets give inmates another way to communicate with family.”
Though the jail can house up to 140 inmates only 70 Tablets are available to use, so each Pod is given Tablets for the inmates to share. According to Jackson, 4 to 5 inmates will share the same tablet.
Each inmate is given a pin number which allows him or her to then make calls and send texts, facial recognition software prevents other inmates from using someone else’s pin. Each Tablet is durable and has a lime green case. The tablets don’t connect to the internet but gives inmates access to Jail approved games and movies, video calls, regular calls, and text messages. They also allow inmates to place orders in the commissary.
Price to use the tablets:
Regular phone calls 21 cents
Text 50 cents
Video 25 cents
International calls $4.00
