A fatality collision occurred March 27 at approximately 3:38 PM on Indian Highway approximately half a mile north of Honobia, Oklahoma in Leflore County.

According to the OHP report, Dell Ward from Honobia, Oklahoma was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Dora Ward, also from Honobia was a passenger. The vehicle was southbound and failed to negotiate a curve, departing the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

Mr. Ward was pinned for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by the Honobia Fire Department. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Dora Ward was transported by AirEvac to Baptist in Ft Smith Arkansas sustaining head and arm injuries.

The cause of the accident and the condition of the driver are still under investigation. Seat belts were in use by both the driver and passenger. The passenger airbag deployed, but the driver airbag did not.

The accident was investigated by the Leflore County detachment of Troop D with assistance of the Honobia Fire Department, the Talihina Fire Department, and Leflore County EMS.
