Press Release

On Saturday, March 13 the LeFlore County Republican Party held its biannual county convention at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center to elect new officers and to select delegates to the State GOP Convention in April.

There were 30-people in attendance with Lundy Kiger serving as the convention chairman, with the first order of business being to hold precinct meetings. Once completed the county convention was called to order with former EMS Director Bob Hawley of Shady Point being elected chairman, taking over the seat held by Lundy Kiger, and former Carl Albert President, Gary Ivey elected as vice-chairman.

Hawley outlined his goals will be to constantly look forward – not backward at the November elections. “It’s time to work on young republicans’ organizations in area high schools and at Carl Albert in order to develop conservative leaders of the future”, Hawley said.

Also selected were local delegates to attend the State GOP Convention in Oklahoma City the weekend of April 9, which will include State Committee members Gaylon Freeman and Donella Hawley, Rick West and Hawley serving on the platform committee; Lundy Kiger on the rules committee and Nikki Allen working in the credentials committee.

“Persons interested in the County Party meetings should check our Facebook page for dates and location as this is our primary method of notification as we do not have an office”, Hawley added.
