Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.
We have been honored to participate and partner with our community to host a reading event to encourage all families to become involved in the lives of our children. We use the term “our” because we believe in working together to strengthen and build the children in our community.
Once again we are partnering with Patrick Lynch Public Library to host “Night Under the Stars” During the event children and adults will be able to obtain a new library card, listen to readers, as well as participate in a book cover contest for children. We have fun and exciting activities throughout the evening.
We have drawings for prizes and contests, and this is where we need your help. This event would not be possible without the generous support that our community provides. If you could donate one bag of candy it would be very much appreciated as we will reach many children in our community that night.
If this is an event that you would like to participate in please let us know.

“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.”
