Independence Baptist Church, Heavener Pastor M.C. Ollar and members of his congregation presented a check in the amount of $26,269 to Terry Wallace and the staff of Second Chances to be used for a new facility. The money was donated for the Second Chances Recovery building fund in Poteau.

Second Chances Recovery is a non- profit organization whose goal is to help people overcome life controlling problems and better equip them to reach their full potential in all areas of their lives. Their goal is to provide recovery resources and methods to rehabilitate people who are struggling with life controlling problems to a healthy, functional and productive lifestyle. This may include educational courses, counseling, transitional housing, job training, and other various means of support and assistance. Second Chances Retail Store will train people completing community service and those leaving prison and detention centers to re-enter the society as good, dependable, hardworking individuals. Founded by Terri Wallace, they have a secondhand resale store & coffee/pastry bar which sells clothes, shoes, home décor, etc. to support the Recovery Program. But Wallace’s great passion is to have a facility that will house those who need a place to stay.

That is why she has launched a Building campaign and has plans to renovate the former Poteau Retirement Center on Central Avenue into a housing facility to help those in need.

“When Terri, came to our church and talked about the mission – and how she wants to help all people in need and not just those in recovery and how she wants to help everyone in the community” said, MC Ollar of Independence Baptist Church, “we decided to take up a love offering and put out a challenge to other churches in the county to do the same as well.

“I am honored and blessed to receive this donation and I promise I will be a good steward with this money as I will use this money toward the building fund money,” said Wallace.

Wallace has a goal to raise a million dollars for the facility and with the donation from Independence Baptist Church she now has $40,000 toward that goal.
