PRESS RELEASE

On January 23, 2019 the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on State Hwy 63 east of Big Cedar near the Arkansas State Line to a call of a domestic and a man not breathing.

Fire Department first responders had previously arrived and were told to leave by people at the residence.

Polk County EMS arrived at the residence along with two Polk County Deputies. When LeFlore County Deputies arrived, they were advised by Polk County EMS that the white male was deceased.

There had been a physical altercation between the deceased male and two other adults at the residence. Three persons from the residence left prior to law enforcement arriving on the scene.

It is uncertain at this time if the male at the residence died as a result of the physical altercation. The State Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and the body of the deceased male was taken to Tulsa for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

During the investigation it was determined that an adult female at the residence had been assaulted by two of the people that fled.

It was also determined that a juvenile male had also been assaulted by the same two individuals. Polk County Deputies located these individuals and followed them back to the residence to follow up with the investigation.

Upon further questioning two of these individuals, 31-year-old Jonathan Martin and 29-year-old Rachel Wells were placed under arrest for Child Abuse and Domestic Assault and Battery.

They were transported to the LeFlore County Detention Center and booked.

The incident is still under investigation awaiting reports from the State Medical Examiner.

Sheriff Scott Sawyer, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County EMS also responsed and assisted in this incident.
