Well if you ain’t heard , ya musta had your head buried in the sand ! There will be a couple of events each weekend all month ! Balloons flying round , Steampunking , Southern gospel singing , motorcycles , Two-stepping and food,Food,FOOD !
But first I have to mention a sad story of life on the road ! Back in early July , Hillbilly Vegas had a bus wreck . A blow out on a bridge could’ve been a disaster but it was a God Thang and the bus didn’t roll . No one was seriously injured ! Since then , it’s all good news ! In recent weeks , a HBV song “High Time For a Good Time” climbed to #20 on the “Mainstream Rock” charts ! It went to#52 on the Country Charts . Soon releasing another song , “Something Crazy” on the Americana charts ! And it will be on a soon to be released album (Vinyl) ! I got a preview of the tune and I predict it will be another chart climber . Way to go ! But the band ain’t hitchhiking to gigs ! They found a replacement – Delbert McClinton was kind enuf to loan them a bus . A nice reward of sorts that I think is well deserved brought on by hard work , practice , great attitude , lotta talent and some awesome songs ! Hope we get a chance to hear them live again soon !
Well , there ain’t much chance of rain this weekend . Too dry to till a garden . This drought is hurting the ranchers and farmers in the area and I am sure the burn ban is still on . It will really affect the colors in the leaves , too ! So get out and enjoy the outside events !
Lots of Live Music this weekend ! Thursday the 7th kicks off the events Downtown Poteau with Friends Of Oklahoma Motorcycle Rally 2021 Community Night . A parade at 5:30 pm followed by food and music provided by Jenna & Tony from Northwest Arkansas ! Got to hear their show at a COC banquet . They are awesome !
Then almost all day Sat. , The First Annual OctoberFest will cover most of Dewey Ave with the Stage located close to the Police Station . Food trucks and vendors fill the street for a couple of blocks and games for Kids and adults will be in the Pocket Park . Live music starts at 1pm with The Tones . 2:05 – MJ and the Geezers . 3:10 – The Mark Albertson Trio . 4:15 – Sons of Turner . 5:20 – Grannie’s Nightmare . 6:25 – The Brains Band . AND 7:30 – Dale Moser and Blackhorse ! Wow ! What a lineup ! This is a Family Friendly Event . Make plans to be there !
Watch for flyers round town (Thanks Dale Fraze for dropping one by) with more info and a list of Sponsors that have supported this event . They all believe in Poteau and have helped make this event possible ! Keep them all in mind when buying locally .
Just down the road in Heavner , another Annual event is the Runestone Renaissance and Steampunk Faire ! Saturday and Sunday (the 10th and 11th) has a stage for the live period music and food trucks and vendors everywhere ! My favorite is the Birds of Prey show . Call the park for the schedule . Beautiful time of year in our area and in a well kept park ! Take the family and enjoy this event !
How bout sitting in the front yard and listening to some Gospel music . At the Wright Family Singing in Shady Point , that’s how it goes ! Friday Oct. 9th at 6:30 , The Wright Family will be joined by The Gospel Cousins . The yard has the feel and look of Fall . Snacks and Drinks are there and there is no charge to attend . Donations accepted and appreciated . Watch for signs on the highway in Shady Point . It will be a perfect evening weather-wise and other wise , too !
And if two-stepping or waltzing is what you like , Connie Abbott and Country Pride play classic country this Friday the 9th at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center on Cavanaugh Rd. Music can be heard from 7 til 10 pm !
Coming up – Musicians ReUnion 2 will be Sat. the16th with three bands . J.B. Lloyd and Company with Earl Hearon – Connie Abbott and Country Pride – and Big Marty and Lil’ Marty !
The Poteau Balloon Festival ( Oct.15th and 16th) has Live Music mixed in with the Balloons , Carnival Rides , Racing , and lots of crafts and food ! More bout the music schedule next week !
The 34th Robber’s Cave Fall Festival will be the 15th , 16th, and 17th and has live music Friday and Saturday and Gospel on Sunday Morning ! Info and scheduling coming next week !
