According to the Poteau Police Department Facebook page: Scammers are calling unsuspecting people and asking "can you hear me now" and when you say YES, they have you.

What they do is record you responding and then splice this into another recording that purports to indicate you have agreed to purchase an item (with that yes strategically placed).

Payment is requested in the form of gift card, money order or direct draft. The Federal Trade Commission urges everyone that if you get a call from a number you don't recognize, ignore it. If you do answer the call and hear that "can you hear me now" question, hang up.

BEWARE! These people can hide their number behind a 918 area code just as easy as call from an unknown one.
