(POTEAU, OKLAHOMA) – The Beautification Committee of Poteau Chamber of Commerce wanted to do another great project for Poteau after the success of the Bull’s for Broadway Project was launched a few years ago. Some of the Chamber Board Members came up with the idea of banners and escalated into a multiple banner project with the veteran’s banners being the priority. Beautification Committee Chairman Peggy Adams and The Adams Abstract Family has agreed to take the lead helping anyway they can with the project.

This is not the first-time banners have been purchased for Poteau. In early 2000 the chamber placed a few along Broadway. In 2013 fifteen Historic Poteau banners were purchased for Dewy and are still present today.

“This is something the chamber has wanted to extend to Broadway for some time now. The flags that fly add so much and the Veteran’s Banners will show who we are, what we stand for, and who we proudly honor. Our Veteran’s that have served, sacrificed and who are still actively serving deserve to be honored with this display of patriotism.

The Annual Veteran’s Day Parade has continued to grow since it started 13 years ago. This project will also do the same.”

The banners are much larger than those on Main Street. The banners are 30”X 60” inches full color with a color or black and white photo. They will display the Veteran’s name and branch of service. Cost to purchase the banner is $200.00 each. The Chamber has worked with the company to keep the cost down and the cost is for the printing process, hardware, shipping and installation.

The Poteau Chamber uses proceeds from the Annual Trash-Off and The Cavanal Killer to help with beautification projects such as this one.

The beautification committee will be purchasing banners that will honor some of the local veterans that served in World War II and Killed In Action in Vietnam and will work with the local DAV Chapter to get names and photos of our many veterans that reside in the Leflore County Area. Anyone can purchase a banner and the committee can provide the veteran’s information.

Deadline for first orders to secure the installation date for Veterans Day 2019 is September 1st. “This is only the beginning of other banners that will be displayed throughout the year and the committee will also extend the banners into other cities and is working with surrounding towns as partners to get banners located on main street areas.
