Press release

On July 29, 2018 Poteau Police Department Officers were in the process of investigating a simple assault from the evening of July 28, 2018.

The officers ran a warrant check on the suspect, Dillon Truitt DOB 11-03-1992, from the assault and learned he had outstanding warrants from Arkansas Probation and Parole. Truitt also had a misdemeanor warrant from the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.

When Patrol Officers arrived at the residence of Truitt, located at 608 Carter Street in the City of Poteau, Truitt was located on the front porch. Upon seeing the officers arrive, Truitt ran into the residence leaving his wife Sara Truitt on the porch. Sara told Officers she would go and get Dillon from inside the residence, but instead locked the door behind her.

Officers made several attempts through an open window and PA system to have Truitt exit the residence. After approximately 45 minutes and no response, Officers formed an entry team and retrieved Truitt. He and his wife were hiding in a bedroom. Both Truitt and his wife were arrested without incident.

Dillon Truitt was arrested for the outstanding Arkansas parole violation warrant, Resisting arrest, and Obstructing an officer. Sara Truitt was arrested for Harboring a Fugitive and Obstructing an Officer.

Both are being held at the Leflore County Detention Center.
