Press release

On September 6, 2019 at approximately 3pm , Patrolman Dan Kasper of the Poteau Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu on Shaw Blvd for failure to signal turn.

The driver, later identified as Eltrone Hornback 45 of Poteau, failed to stop and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued.

Hornback stopped the car in an alley off of Clayton Avenue and attempted to flee on foot.

Patrolman Kasper caught Hornback and took him into custody.

Hornback was wanted by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for escape from GPS monitoring for a LeFlore County District Court conviction of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance & Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute.

Hornback was transported to EOMC for medical evaluation after complaint of shortness of breath and the discovery by officers of a bag of suspected controlled dangerous substance in his mouth.

An impound inventory of the Malibu revealed a quantity of suspected controlled dangerous substance that was individually packaged in a manner consistent with distribution.

After medical clearance, Hornback will be booked into the LeFlore County Jail on the escape warrant, along with additional traffic and drug charges. Exact charges have not been determined at this time.
