According to Assistant Police Chief, Greg Russell with the Poteau Police Department, on September 16, 2022, at 12:14pm, Poteau Police officers were dispatched to North Broadway in the area of McDonalds on a call of a male carrying a long gun. Poteau Police and other area law enforcement agencies responded to the area.
The matter was investigated, and it was determined that the male did not commit or intend to commit any criminal acts. Investigators learned that the male was transporting the firearm on foot from a nearby pawn shop to where his ride was located, near McDonalds.

There was and is no threat to the public.
