Carl Albert State College is proud to announce that Judy Sims is the recipient of the Outstanding Support Staff award from the Oklahoma Association of Community College (OACC) awards for 2020.
Sims is a veteran employee of Carl Albert State College, serving the institution for over 25 years, and was nominated for the award by CASC peers and administrators. Sims serves as the Administrative Assistant with the CASC Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). “Judy is one of the most dedicated employees I have ever had,” said Director Michelle White. “Her knowledge and dedication to EOC and CASC has helped several students to take the first step toward a college degree.”
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded TRiO program. TRiO programs were originally established in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. EOC became the fourth TRiO program when it was established in 1972.
EOC provides counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. EOC also provides services to improve the financial and economic literacy of its participants. An important objective of the program is to counsel participants on financial aid options, including basic financial planning skills, and to assist with the financial aid application process. EOC’s goal is to increase the number of adults who successfully enroll in college or technical school.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work so closely with Judy the last few years,” said Cara Comer, EOC Coordinator. “She has been my right hand and it is hard to imagine what EOC will be like without her! Judy’s dedication to her job and to CASC as a whole is admirable. I consider her an exemplary employee. If you know Judy at all, you know that she always strives to do everything to the best of her ability, on time, and in the correct fashion.”
Sims’ service to Carl Albert State College is admirable. She plans to retire this year, and will be greatly missed. “Judy is one of a kind and I will miss her greatly,” said Comer. “I wish her the very best in her retirement and, as always, I will look forward to our lunches together and catching up.”
