District Attorney Jeff Smith, of Poteau, has been reappointed to serve on the Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board by Attorney General Mike Hunter. Smith will continue to serve as the representative of the District Attorneys Council on the Board, which consists of members from many disciplines, including judges, district attorneys, law enforcement, medical and mental health professionals, and victim’s advocates. Smith has served on the Board as the DAC representative since July 1, 2007.
The mission of the Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board is to reduce the number of domestic violence related deaths in Oklahoma. The Board performs multi-disciplinary case reviews of statistical data and information derived from disciplines with jurisdiction and/or direct involvement with the case to develop recommendations to improve policies, procedures and practices within the systems involved and between agencies that protect and serve victims of domestic abuse.
