According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Fontana California man was injured when he fell asleep at the wheel of his 2014 Volvo Tractor trailer.

The collision occurred on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at approximately 12:46am on United State Highway 281 and Interstate 40, in the city limits of Hinton Oklahoma in Caddo County.

 

According to the report, Jose E. Manzanares, 61, of Fontana, California was westbound on I40 when he apparently fell asleep and went off the north side of I40 into a ditch and down an embankment hitting the east retaining wall of US 281. The vehicle then crossed US 281 hitting the west retaining wall and catching fire before coming to rest.

 

Manzanares was transported by Medic West EMS to OU Medical Center then transferred to Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, trunk internal, trunk external and leg injuries.

The accident was investigated by OHP, Hinton Police Department, Hinton Fire Department, Hydro Fire Department, Geary Fire Department, Caddo County Sheriff’s office, Medic West EMS and ODOT.
