The Developmental Disabilities Council of Oklahoma (DDCO) and the Department of Libraries (ODL) have partnered to bring Disability Awareness & Resources workshops to libraries in Oklahoma. We started in-person workshops in the Spring, but they were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since we are unable to meet in person at this time, we have scheduled a virtual workshop on October 12, 2020 for all librarians who would like to join.
Public and tribal library staff members will get 0.3 CEU credits for attending the morning session and 0.24 CEUs for attending the afternoon session.
- Morning Session (9:30 to noon) – Disability Awareness
- Afternoon Session (1:30 to 3:30) – Disability Resources and Tools
During the morning session, you will gain enhanced awareness and knowledge of disabilities. You will have increased confidence in working with individuals with a disability. You will get insight into interacting respectfully and communicating effectively with people with disabilities. You will be introduced to simple ways to make your library more accessible and welcoming.
During the afternoon session, we will provide information on disability-related resources in Oklahoma. The public will also be invited to join. We will share information on groups and agencies locally and statewide that provide support. We will provide tools and resources that will benefit both you and your customers. You will receive information that will help you and your customers navigate the disability landscape.
Libraries participating in the workshop will be eligible to apply for a GRANT OPPORTUNITY to help their library purchase accessibility tools and technology.
DDCO will provide information on how to apply during the workshop.
