Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 22, 2025) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond formally requested that the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board deny clemency for convicted murderer Tremane Wood. He “has attempted to avoid responsibility for his actions and has never shown remorse” for the 2002 murder of 19-year-old Ronnie Wipf, according to the clemency packet filed today.

A jury found Wood guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and unanimously sentenced him to death. Numerous appellate courts have rejected his meritless challenges to his conviction and death sentence,” Drummond said. We must secure justice for this heinous murder and prevent Wood from committing additional acts of violence. Wood’s actions on death row in recent years, including distributing drugs and having another inmate viciously beaten, prove that death is the only way to ensure the safety of Oklahomans.”

Wood was sentenced to death for stabbing and killing Wipf on New Year’s Day in 2002 during a robbery in Oklahoma City. He is seeking clemency based on his assertion that he has not killed anyone. A jury rejected his defense, and the evidence the State presented in the clemency filing shows that Wood personally drove the knife into Wipf’s chest.

During his time in prison, Wood has also possessed multiple contraband cell phones that he has used to distribute drugs and engage in gang violence. Today, the State provided the Pardon and Parole Board a video of a beating paid for by Wood, a video he insisted be sent to him. According to the clemency filing, Wood is “fully active in the criminal world behind bars,” making his death sentence appropriate.

Wood’s clemency hearing is set for Nov. 5. His execution is scheduled for Nov. 13.
