OKLAHOMA CITY -- An inmate who walked away from Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown has been arrested. A woman who picked him up after he walked off the facility's grounds was also arrested.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension and Investigations agents located Johnny Simmons, 34, late Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area along Oklahoma 48, one mile south of Coleman.

Tammy Edwards  was arrested in McAlester for aiding in his escape and harboring a fugitive.

Agents received a call from a citizen who said Simmons came out of the woods near their residence and asked to borrow a phone. An ODOC canine unit tracked him from there.

Simmons was last seen running away from the prison around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

When he walked away, Simmons was serving time on sentences for second-degree burglary, failure to register as a sex offender, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and pointing a firearm.
