Participants will attend music classes, receive private instruction from an NSU professor and rehearse with the university’s music ensembles. The day also includes a financial aid session, campus tour and information about career opportunities for music graduates.
Dr. Alison Moore, assistant professor of Music, said the event is designed to help students better understand what pursuing a music degree at NSU can offer.
“Our goal is to give students interested in music a firsthand look at what pursuing a music degree at NSU could look like,” Moore said. “Sometimes, pursuing a music degree can feel a little mysterious if you’re not sure what to expect. We want to open our doors, share what we do here and help students see the possibilities available to them at NSU.”
NSU President Rodney Hanley said opportunities like Music Major for a Day help prospective students explore their interests as they consider their college options.
“We want students to have the opportunity to experience NSU for themselves, connect with our faculty and see how their interests can shape their future,” Hanley said.
Music Major for a Day will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the Tahlequah Fine Arts building. A second session is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2027.
Registration is free. High school students interested in participating can learn more and register at academics.nsuok.edu/music/music-major-for-a-day.aspx.
