OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) today released an update on the increased travel and visitation numbers generated by Memorial Day weekend at Oklahoma State Parks.

In total, between Thursday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 28, Oklahoma State Parks welcomed more than 250,000 visitors, generating over $30 million in economic impact for local communities.

“Almost 60% of all travel spending happens in rural Oklahoma, and visitation to our parks means substantial economic impact in our local communities,” said Shelley Zumwalt Executive Director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. “Not only does this introduce people to the beauty of Oklahoma, but it also connects visitors with the towns our parks are in, supporting a variety of local businesses, museums, shops and restaurants. We hope to maintain this momentum throughout the summer and encourage anyone interested to check with their local park for more information on fun events, adventures and trips.”
