Press release
At approximately 2:00 am on Feb 6, 2019, three officers with Lighthorse Police Department made contact with an individual, identified as Cory Banks, B/M, DOB: 08-21-1982, on the second floor of the parking garage of the Newcastle Casino.
Banks was in a black Mustang. Officers tried to detain Banks, but were unsuccessful in removing him from the car. He backed his car over two of the officers and at that time, officers fired their weapons.
Banks then drove his car at a high speed through the parking garage and crashed the vehicle near the east entrance of the casino on NW 24th street.
He then walked into the casino parking lot and got into another vehicle which was occupied by a female.
The female in the vehicle was unrelated to the individual. While in that vehicle, officers approached and arrested Banks without incident.
Banks was booked into the McClain County Jail on three counts A&B with dangerous weapon on a Police Officer.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the initial contact with Banks.
The injured officer was treated and released.
The Lighthorse Police Department requested OSBI investigate the incident.
OSBI Agents are processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses. Upon conclusion of the investigation, a comprehensive report will be given to the District Attorney's Office.
The OSBI does not release names of involved officers unless they are charged with a crime.
