Poteau Man injured in accident near Stringtown Featured

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol a two vehicle accident occurred on November 29, 2020 at approximately 11:00 am on State Highway 43 near County Road D4004, approximately 8 miles east of Stringtown in Atoka County.

According to the report, a 2011 Subaru driven by James Clayton, 75, of Poteau, OK was traveling eastbound on SH43 and a 2017 Ford Pickup driven by Brady Bishop 36, of Kaufman, Texas and his passengers were traveling westbound, when Clayton departed the roadway and went left of center and struck the pickup.


Bishop was pinned for approximately 20 minutes freed by Stringtown Fire Department. Bishop and his passenger were not injured.


James Clayton was transported by Mediflight to St. John in Tulsa and was admitted in critical condition with multiple injuries.

The accident was investigated by the OHP, Stringtown Police Dept., Stringtown Fire Dept., Atoka Sheriff’s Department and the Daisy Fire Dept.
