Speaker of the House Kyle Hilbert (R-Bristow)
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma House Speaker Kyle Hilbert, R-Bristow, released the following comments after Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s announcement of a $17.1 billion multi-state settlement with Meta Platforms:
“Protecting Oklahoma’s children is a top priority, that means holding social media companies accountable and ensuring students can focus on learning in the classroom. The Legislature took an important step this year by permanently banning cell phones during the school day, giving teachers and students a better environment to learn without the constant distraction of a device.
Today’s settlement reinforces that same principle: children deserve reasonable guardrails around technology, and parents and educators deserve the tools to help provide them. I commend Attorney General Drummond for holding Meta accountable and pursuing reforms that will make online platforms safer for Oklahoma’s kids.”
