Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 20, 2025) – The State Treasurer along with a wide range of organizations will support Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Monday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 100. This event, hosted by a coalition of self-advocates, advocacy organizations, and service providers, brings together individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and key stakeholders to raise awareness and promote policies that enhance opportunities and resources for Oklahomans with disabilities.
As the agency responsible for facilitating the Oklahoma ABLE Savings Plan, the State Treasurer’s Office recognizes the importance of financial empowerment for individuals with disabilities. The ABLE program provides eligible Oklahomans with a tax-advantaged savings option that allows them to save for qualified expenses without jeopardizing critical benefits.
“The ABLE Savings Plan gives individuals with disabilities greater independence and financial security,” said Treasurer Todd Russ. “We encourage all to join us at the Capitol to learn more, show support, and be part of the conversation on expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities.”
The event will feature participation from a wide range of organizations dedicated to serving the developmental disabilities community, including:
- The Arc of Oklahoma
- Autism Foundation of Oklahoma
- Bridges Foundation
- Center for Learning and Leadership/UCEDD
- Central State Community Services
- Developmental Disabilities Council of Oklahoma
- Developmental Disabilities Services
- New Leaf
- Mobility Management
- Oklahoma Family Network
- Oklahoma Human Services – DDS
- Oklahoma Disability Law Center, Inc.
- Sooner Success – Sibshops
- Think Ability First
- Unity Forward
- Zarrow Center
Legislators, service providers, and advocacy leaders will gather to discuss priorities, share resources, and celebrate the contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities in Oklahoma.
The upcoming expansion of the program will include veterans and raise the age eligibility, extending its benefits to a larger group of individuals and providing greater financial empowerment and opportunities for many more Oklahomans.
