ROFF, OK – On April 17, 2026, the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate an assault with a hatchet.
Just after 10:00 a.m., Pontotoc County deputies received a call regarding two individuals who had been injured at a property near Sauls Avenue and North Broadway in Roff, Oklahoma. When deputies arrived on scene, they located an adult male and female, who had both suffered severe injuries. One of the victims claimed they had both been attacked by an individual with a hatchet.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. During the investigation, OSBI special agents and deputies identified the suspect as 41-year-old Cody Pinkerton.
Investigators also determined a five-year-old boy was missing from the home.
The United States Marshals Service, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and other nearby law enforcement agencies were alerted of the situation and a large-scale search was initiated.
That afternoon, the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located Pinkerton in the southern part of rural Love County, Oklahoma. Pinkerton was arrested and booked into the Pontotoc County Jail on two counts of Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
The five-year-old boy was located with the suspect, unharmed. The child is safe at this time.
This is still an ongoing investigation. The OSBI appreciates the great work by the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service during this search and investigation.
