CHOCTAW COUNTY, Oklahoma (January 23, 2023) – Gregory Allen Gamblin II (3/25/1988) is convicted of Jeremy Barnett’s murder in Choctaw County District Court on Friday, January 20, 2023. The jury recommended a sentence of Life without Parole.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was requested by the Hugo Police Department to assist with the investigation on March 11, 2019. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Choctaw County


Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call related to a possible stabbing on Egg Shell Road in Hugo. Upon the arrival of officers, Jeremy Barnett (34 at the time) was seated in the driver’s seat of a four-door car. Barnett had a severe laceration to his neck. Hugo police officers and Choctaw County EMS attempted life-saving measures, however Barnett succumbed to his injuries at the hospital in Hugo.


During the OSBI investigation, it was determined that Gamblin was responsible for the murder of Barnett.

On March 12, 2019, the Choctaw County District Attorney’s Office filed First Degree Murder charges against Gamblin.

Officers from the Hugo Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, Choctaw Tribal Police and Agents from the OSBI took Gamblin into custody at a residence in Fort Towson without incident on March 12, 2020 and he was booked into the Choctaw County Jail.

Gamblin’s formal sentencing is schedule for March 7, 2023.
