Texas man killed riding his bicycle on I- 40 in McIntosh County Featured

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol a fatality accident occurred on January 3, 2020 at approximately 3:00 pm on Interstate-40 eastbound at mile marker 271, approximately 6 mile east of Checotah, Oklahoma, in McIntosh County.

According to the report Cody Ellis 31, of Pampa Texas, was eastbound on the shoulder of I-40 on a Bicycle and for some unknown reason he entered into the outside lane of traffic and was struck by a 2016 GMC Sierra driven by Brittany Booth 28, of Wister Oklahoma.


Both the bike and the vehicle stayed in contact with each other for approximately 46 feet before separating.


The bike skidded east for approximately 138 feet before coming to a rest. Ellis was ejected from the bike for approximately 240 feet before coming to rest in the roadway.


Ellis was transported by Checotah EMS to St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee where he was pronounced deceased with head, trunk, internal and external injuries.

Booth and a nine-year-old passenger were not injured.

The accident was investigated by OHP, Checotah EMS, Checotah Police Department, McIntosh County, Central High Fire Department and Shady Grove Fire Department
