Press release
Trooper Sammy Lee took a bullet to his ballistic vest on May 11, 2018 during a shootout in Talihina. The vest protected him from what could have been a serious injury. Troopers Brett Stephens, Brandon Seward, Christopher Bunch, Chance Tuttle, Jason Ross and Timothy Wesley all received minor injuries in the shootout.
The troopers were assisting the Talihina Police Department in the service of a felony warrant. As troopers served the warrant, Bradley Webster opened fire on the troopers. In the exchange of gunfire, a fire started inside the structure in downtown Talihina. Webster died at the scene.
As the team was being evaluated by medics, it was discovered that Trooper Lee had been struck in his ballistic vest by a bullet fragment. The vest had stopped the projectile in the lower right torso.
On Thursday, November 29, Trooper Lee will be presented with his new ballistic vest.
