According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a drowning occurred between 3pm and 4pm on December 23, 2018 at Goodwater Community on a private lake, 14 miles east of Idabel in McCurtain County.
According to the report, Lapatrick D. Van, 41, of Idabel and Kenney Mays, 54 of Idabel were fishing in a 11-foot aluminum Long Star boat on a private lake. The investigation shows that the boat was swamped
with water and both victims went into the water.
Recovery was made by Idabel Fire Department by drag bar in 8.6 feet of water 50 yards north of the south shore line and 100 yards west of the east shore line on December 24, 2018.
They were transported to Nunley Funeral Home in Idabel.
Personal Flotation were not in use by victims, according to the OHP.
