According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a three-vehicle injury accident occurred on July 21, 2021 at approximately 1:54pm United States Highway 270, approximately 7 miles west of Wilburton in Latimer County.
According to the OHP report, a 2002 Ford, driven by Courtney N. Deatherage 26, from Wilburton was traveling eastbound on United States Highway 270 and a 2020 Nissan, driven by Janet M. Crawford, white female, age 67, from Wilburton as well as 2018 Nissan, driven by Melissa L. Johnson, 36, from Red Oak, who were both traveling westbound on United States Highway 270.
Deatherage became distracted inside the vehicle and traveled left of center striking the Crawford vehicle. Johnson, swerved to the right to avoid Crawford’s vehicle.
Crawford, was transported by Pafford EMS to McAlester Regional Hospital in McAlester and then transferred by Air Care to St. John in Tulsa, Oklahoma with head injuries in stable condition. A passenger with Crawford, Gary A. Underwood, 54, from Wilburton, Oklahoma was transported by Pafford EMS to McAlester Regional Hospital in McAlester, Oklahoma with trunk-internal injuries. He was treated and released.
The accident was investigated by OHP, Wilburton FD, Latimer County SO and Wilburton PD.
