According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a fatality collision occurred January 4, 2019 at approximately 5:54pm on State Highway 63A, approximately 2 tenth north of South East 202nd road in Latimer County.
The accident occurred when a 2004 Chevy Impala, driven by Jerrie Melton 61, from Wister was north bound and a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by Callie Byous age 19, from Talihina was south bound, when for some unknown reason the Impala traveled across the center lane, and the Pontiac swerved left in order to avoid the collision but was unable to avoid and struck the Impala head on.
Melton was transported by LeFlore County EMS to Choctaw Nation Health Care Center in Talihina and pronounced dead at the hospital with trunk internal and head injuries.
Byous was transported by Pafford EMS to Choctaw Nation Health Care Center in Talihina and was treated and released with minor arm injury.
Tory Byous, 21, a passenger in the Sunfire, from Talihina was transported by Pafford EMS to Choctaw Nation Health Care Center in Talihina and treated and released with an arm injury.
