   Memorial Day and Live Music

Lots of music this weekend! And because Monday, May 30th is recognized as Memorial Day, please remember the many reasons for it! Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in military service for the United States. We all know someone, family or friends that have paid the ultimate price for our Freedom. “Greater love has no one than this! To lay down one’s life for family and friends”- John 15:13! In your own way, please remember the fallen!
I had to remember, some confusion is a symptom of a longer life that it was “Decoration Day” when I was growing up.  Wasn’t until 1966 that it became officially “Memorial Day “! I have lots of memories of our family cleaning and decorating graves, not just Veterans that had fallen, but all our relatives and friends. AND there is nothing more moving than seeing the flags that are placed by the VFW, on the final resting place of our veterans! A good way to explain it all to inquiring minds is a trip to the Ft. Smith National Cemetery. The solemn beauty of the rows of hundreds of red, white, and blue against the white headstones puts it more in perspective! Never forget their sacrifice!
So, on that note, Dawn’s Diner will be closed this weekend to allow them to be with family and friends. No live music at the Spiro Eagles.
But to kick off the “Official and Bonafide” start of the Summer Season, there will be a beaucoup of music to experience!
Live Wire ft. Felisha McKenzie will be at La Huertas on the outdoor stage, this Thursday, the 26th! Music is from 7-10 pm. The band had a big night at Ed and Linda’s 128 club. They are ready to entertain the Garrison Ave crowd.

Felisha MCEnzie
Oklahoma Moon has a 4 gig weekend! They are making music for the residents of the Cherokee Elder Care Center in Eufaula on Friday the 27th. This is a very kind and generous use of their God given talents. It starts at 11 am and goes through lunchtime. A very much appreciated and enjoyed break of country and gospel music for the residents. Thanks, guys, for all that ya do.
Then, it’s back to work that night starting at 6 pm at Neumeier’s Rib Room on Garrison Ave. First class music for the diners at a First class restaurant. Next, Sat. the 28th, The Showtime Jamboree in Pocola will feature Chloe Fulton. Chloe recently moved to Ft. Smith from Central Ark. and will add a lil’ beauty and talent to this event! Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a good thing that the band has a lotta talent that kind of offsets their looks. And that’s all I’m gonna say bout that! Chloe sings, plays guitar and the fiddle. This will be a special show! It is easy to find, 700 Faye Ave in Pocola, just turn East at the Tote a Poke and go 4 blocks to the Pocola Senior’s Center! The Show kicks off at 7 pm. There will be a cover, but it will be worth it! See ya there! Then, they finish the weekend on Sunday at a private party just in time to enjoy the holiday on Monday!

Libby Starkes and the Stray Dawgs will be up by the Lake! Lake Eufaula, that is! All Weekend! Three shows, Friday – Sat. -Sunday, at the Rockin’ Country Bar. They are a favorite at the place, and it will be a busy weekend. Just across the Lake Eufaula bridge on Hwy 69 at the Texanna Rd exit, this joint will be jumping! Music from 8-Midnite all three nights.
So, enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend. Be Safe! The weather will be perfect for Summer activities. Support Live Music! Contact me for info at 918-649-5736 or tj.wiles61@outlook.com!
