Skinny Dipping/Baptism – songwriter “Unknown”
I heard this on Pickin’ Post on NPR and it predated Ray Stevens’ “Mississippi Squirrel Revival”. Ray’s song made me laugh so hard that I had to hold my sides. This one is just as funny.
Skinny Dipping Baptism had all the elements and awkward situations. Just 4 young boys taking a dip in a very cool mt. stream on a very hot day to get some relief from Summer temps. Hanging their clothes on some bushes, they all jumped in the waist high water. They were caught off guard by the local church having a baptism and it just keeps getting funnier the longer the boys have to hide.
Memory Lane time. Some will remember “Bluff Hole” just outta Wister on Mt. Creek that has seen a lotta skinny dipping. Holsom Creek was oft time used down at the old Goats Bluff Park. Swimmin’ nekked was a part of growing up in rural surroundings. And could easily be enjoyed after a long day of haulin’ and stackin’ hay. Just think, I bet most of ya can add stories and places to the list. I sure hope that kids get a chance to sneak off and enjoy swimming like we did. It’s harder to do now ‘cause most fences are pasted with “posted-NO trespassing” signs. It was one of life’s simple pleasures!
Listening to Live Music is another pleasure in life. Some more tolerable weather the last weekend of July allowed folks a chance to do so. There are NO 100* days predicted for the next 10 days!
Starting off, Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak will have Glen Rogers singing on Thursday the 4th. Great Country voice and songs to listen to while you’re getting a bite of supper. Friday 5th, “270 West” provides the music. Scot Francis, Randy Fennell and Larry Taylor just recently started playing together at Dawn’s and have become a favorite. Putin’ a new name to the old faces (sorry, guys) “270 West” was born. I for the life of me hadn’t figured out why. A regular and crowd favorite “Big Marty and the Dirty Dogs” will be at Dawns on Sat the 6th. All music starts at 6 pm. The food is fit for royalty so give yourself a treat. The catfish and Chicken fried steak are to die for.
Libby Starkes and the Stray Dawgs will be close to home this Sat. the 6th at the Sallisaw VFW. Libby sings like a songbird and has a great show. Music from 8-Midnite.
I-40 Dance and Music Hall has “Bricktown” on Sat the 6th. The dance starts at 7 pm. AND, don’t forget that “The Lawmen” always play on Thursday for the line dancers. On fb, I have seen folks do the twist there too!
My friends in “Movin’ On” will be at the Crazy Horse Saloon this Sat the 6th. Classic Country and Rock, “Crock” Kinda stuff, these guys can work a crowd and make the night fun and one to enjoy. Make a special effort and laugh at Harry’s corny jokes. He tries.
Just across the border in Hackett, Ark. Music will be on the cool outside stage with fans and misters under the canopy making it as cool as sitting in front of a water cooler. ‘Member them? Friday 5th is a Crocky’s family event! Sam Rizzo plays Praise and worship music from 6-8 pm. It says a lot about a cafe and makes me wanna support them when the Friday nite motto is “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 KJV Then on Sat. nite 6th, Mike (MG & the Quiet Storm) Lenzini entertains with several instruments and a variety of music from 6-8 pm. The food is special. And my thanks to the cafe for being such a good influence on the community of Hackett.
Coming soon – J.B. Lloyd will do a George Jones Tribute at the Civic Center with special guest Gabrielle Gore and Silent Thunder. Grannie’s Nightmare will be at Roosters. Oklahoma Moon will be playing at Red’s Place. Poteau’s Octoberfest will have an awesome lineup of the very best of music from LeFlore Co. and Ft Smith. Mo’ info later but the Wanda Watson Band is the headliner.
