Talimena Drive in the Fall Talimena Drive in the Fall Talihina Chamber of Commerce

Press Release

On the morning of Thursday January 21st, Ms. Vera with the Talihina Chamber of Commerce brought to my attention that the Forestry Service is now looking into bull dozing half of the vistas down on our side of Talimena Scenic Drive. We all know what that would do to our area, without the drive, our community will lose a lot of visitors which in return affects the revenue we bring in.

This last fall, my family and I went for a drive. It was devastating to see the amount of trash, overgrowth and the down right-out disrepair of the drive. So many in our area have also expressed this same concern. With this being said, it brings me to the point of saying, without the help of our community we will slowly but surely see the decline of the Talimena Scenic Drive. This will result in the loss of visitors to our community in the coming years.

Today, we are asking for our residents and business owners to step up and commit to helping clean up the drive and vistas. The process will consist of cleaning up trash, cleaning up the restrooms at the entrance to the drive and mowing.

If we lose this resource our area will suffer. Not only the revenue the drive brings to our businesses but if those businesses can no longer afford to operate the public will no longer have those businesses to frequent and/or work at.

Can we count on you?

If you would like to be a part of the effort or have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to reach out to myself or the Chamber of Commerce.
