Poteau, Okla. - The Workforce and Economic Development Center at Kiamichi Tech - Poteau is meeting training needs for local law enforcement through its Police Officer Training Academy. Kiamichi Tech is set to welcome 10 commissioned officers from seven law enforcement agencies in the region on August 8th.

In support of this program, The Community State Bank (TCSB) has generously donated scholarship funding to Kiamichi Tech that will be used to fund the tuition of local cadets, which will save their sending agencies significant financial resources.

“We appreciate The Community State Bank’s continued support of our programs,” said Michael Culwell, Kiamichi Tech – Poteau Campus Director. “Their generous, and repeated financial contribution to the Police Academy will allow local law enforcement agencies to send their officers to our Academy for top-notch education and training, while conserving their department’s resources.”

Bob Reed, Chairman of the Board of Directors at TCSB, and Larry Spradley, President and CEO at TCSB, have been champion supporters of law enforcement education and training in eastern Oklahoma. “Kiamichi Tech has always strived to provide state-of-the-art training programs and we are pleased with our continued partnership,” said Spradley. “We trust this donation reinforces our commitment to education in the communities we serve.”

The Police Academy has gained significant community, business and law enforcement support as well as statewide attention. Kiamichi Tech’s Police Academy was named the 2021 Outstanding Training Program of the year in a statewide competition of the Oklahoma CareerTech Post-Secondary Adult Career Education division.

“We have poured countless hours into developing this training program,’ said Shannen Hamby, Workforce & Economic Development Coordinator, “and working to ensure the highest standard in every aspect of this training program. We are so proud of the program we have built, the officers we have hired as instructors, and the cadets set to begin training in August. We are confident the training these officers will receive will prepare them for their careers of service to our communities and state, and will ultimately make eastern Oklahoma a better place to live.”

The Academy is a 16-week program covering all facets of law enforcement education from law enforcement driver training and firearms safety to defensive tactics and criminal investigations.
