PRESS RELEASE
According to a press release from the LeFlore County Sheriff’s office at 4:20 pm on Wednesday May 22, 2019, members of the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence located at 205 Chickasaw Street in Wister, OK to serve a Protective Order on Paul “Keith” Woolery.
When deputies knocked on the door, Mr. Woolery came to the front door and began to curse at them. Mr. Woolery was informed that they had a protective order on him and he was ordered to leave the residence in compliance with that order. Mr. Woolery cursed the deputies and ran to the back room of the residence and threatened to blow up the house or burn it down.
He also yelled that he would set fire to the house and run outside and shoot all the officers there and force them to shoot him. Members of the Wister Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the scene and the residence was isolated and secured.
From prior incidents involving Mr. Woolery it was known he had gunpowder and tannerite in the the residence along with several firearms. The Tactical Team from Oklahoma Highway Patrol was requested along with a certified negotiater.
While waiting on these personnel to arrive, Mr. Woolery ran out the front door and charged at two LeFlore County Deputies. Woolery was subdued by use of a taser and taken into custody without further incident.
Woolery had been communicating threats for several days that he was going to burn the house down. He also stated to deputies that he had rigged booby traps and possible explosives in the house. Paul “Keith” Woolery was transported to the LeFlore County Detention Center and booked on initial charges of Violation of Protective Order, 2 counts of Assault on a police officer and threatening a violent act in the presence of an officer.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad was contacted to assist in searching the residence for any possible booby traps or explosive devices in order to safely secure the house. We are currently awaiting their arrival on scene.
While speaking with Wayne Woolery, who is Paul “Keith Woolery’s brother, Wayne told a Sheriff’s Office Investigator that since Keith was now in custody that he (Wayne) would just have to light a match to the house and burn it.
Wayne Woolery was then taken into custody and transported to the LeFlore County Detention Center where he was booked on a charge of communicating a violent act in the presence of an officer.
Further charges may be pending on Keith Woolery based on any illegal findings from a search of the residence by the OHP Bomb Squad and the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.
