The Poteau Chamber of Commerce welcomed Viking Axe Lodge as new members with a Ribbon Cutting Saturday, February 15, 2020. Viking Axe Lodge offers axe throwing for all ages. Prior to the ribbon cutting, we watched 11-year-old Kyson Atkinson celebrate his birthday with several friends and family members taking turns trying to improve their axe throwing skills.
Co-owners Ashley & Joshua McLaughlin and Marshall Hoffman opened the venue last month to give area residents something new to do. Ashley said, “With so many other things closing like the bowling alley, we wanted to give people an option here in Poteau.” She said her brother had tried axe throwing as part of an experience package in Las Vegas a while back and then she and Joshua tried it in Springdale since then. They both really liked it and saw it as a positive, safe activity they wanted to share with people here.
Currently Viking Axe Lodge is running a special of $99 for up to 10 people. Their regular prices are $20 per adult, $10 per child and $30 per couple (grab a friend if you are only half a couple and save $5 each). Regular sessions are 75 minutes each and include coaching if desired. They have added a Glow Throw area with black lights and glow-in-the-dark targets which is included in the regular prices.
The owners encourage participants to BYOB (wine, beer, low point seltzer only, no spirits) or soft drinks and outside food is welcome.
Viking Axe Lodge is open Thursday from 5-9 PM and Friday-Sunday from 5-11 PM. They offer other times as needed and encourage people to contact them on their Facebook page or by calling 479-459-5723 to schedule private parties. You can also book a session by going to their WEBSITE. Viking Axe Lodge is located in downtown Poteau at 217 Dewey Avenue.
