Trout Fishing Destinations
Blue River (South-Central Oklahoma)
- The Blue River is one of Oklahoma’s most popular winter trout fisheries. Regular stockings and easy public access make it ideal for beginners and seasoned anglers alike. Trout here respond well to small spinners, PowerBait, and fly patterns like Woolly Buggers and midges.
Lower Illinois River (Northeastern Oklahoma)
- Flowing year-round from Tenkiller Ferry Dam, the Lower Illinois River offers excellent trout habitat with consistent cold water. Winter anglers often find success drifting bait or fishing flies in deeper runs and pools when water temperatures drop.
Lower Mountain Fork River (Southeastern Oklahoma)
- This tailwater below Broken Bow Dam provides some of the most consistent trout fishing in the state. The Lower Mountain Fork supports both stocked and holdover trout, and winter is a great time to target larger fish using nymphs, streamers, and spinners.
