Last week, I had the privilege of recognizing Lions Club International President Bryan Sheehan in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. As a Lion myself, I know firsthand the good works the Lions Club provides to their local communities, particularly my home town where they sponsor our livestock and premium sale as well as donating heavily to our new splash pad.
A group of Eastern Oklahoma State College Oklahoma Promise students also stopped by last week as well to tell some of their success stories. I always enjoy seeing the benefits of such programs, as it does help many students receive assistance toward obtaining a college education.
My House Bill 1589 was heard and passed off the Senate floor this week. This bill includes all meats to be eligible to become “Oklahoma Certified,” which will encourage locally grown and processed meat products.
My House Bill 1590 is eligible for a hearing on the floor. We are still in the process of adjusting language through amendments. I’m confident we can get the language right and get this legislation passed.
House Bill 1586 is ready to be heard on the Senate floor as well. I’ve visited with the Senate author and do believe this bill, which provides a reduction in parking fees for our local parks, will pass.
As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
