Week twelve is quickly upon us, but the pace for the House has definitely slowed. We’re awaiting the Senate to hear our bills, and then we will reciprocate. Much of our committee work is complete.
We did score a win last week with the announcement that the Hydro-Electric plant proposal on the Kiamichi River was once again denied by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. They cited an insufficient proposed study plan. This is great news for southeast Oklahoma as all the produced power would be sent and consumed in north Texas, at the expense of our own Kiamichi River.
This week, we celebrated Ag Day at the Capitol. It’s always fun to participate in and call attention to the contributions agriculture brings to Oklahoma’s economy. In my mind, every day is Ag Day.
This week, I also visited Langston University to tour their agriculture programs. I have to admit, I really wasn’t aware of their work in the field of agriculture or that they have their own extension service. I was aware that they were one of three land grant universities in Oklahoma. This tour reminded me that “I don’t know what I don’t know.”
Last week, I had the privilege of having a page from Wilburton. Memphis Anderson was really involved. I always like to follow the youth as they progress in their educational journey.
Eastern Oklahoma State College also brought a couple of groups by last week. Oklahoma Promise students came up as well as members of the Presidential Leadership Class. It’s always a pleasure getting to visit with the various groups.
