As summertime extends, I still frequently get asked about the restaurant at Robber’s Cave State Park. My understanding was that requests for proposals for these facilities were let out in early summer with a closing date in June. I have been informed by The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department that for whatever reason, this closing date has been extended until Aug. 8. Hopefully, soon we will know what the plans are for these beautiful new facilities.

Our House special investigation committee is planning to hold some further hearings in August as they continue to try to get to the bottom of what happened in this whole debacle.

Legislative wise, not a lot is happening at the moment. We are, however, in the midst of a very active runoff election with a voting date of Aug 23rd.  Polls open at 7 a.m. on election day and stay open until 7 p.m. Voters also can vote early at their designated county election place. Early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21. To check your poling place and what will be on your ballot, you can pull up a sample ballot on the Oklahoma Voter Portal on the State Election Board website:

I would encourage everyone to vote in this runoff as there are several statewide offices on this ballot. These are important positions, such as superintendent for public education, state treasurer and labor commissioner, as well as a state senate and congressional district seats. Krebs voters will be selecting a mayor on the runoff ballot, and Savanna Public Schools has a proposition on the ballot as well.

Finally, I would like to close out with some good news as I attended two celebrations of long-term commitment and marriages for two couples recently. Loni Lou and Lee Anderson of Crowder recently celebrated 61 years of marriage, Roy and Ginny Alford of Red Oak celebrated 60 years. I wish to congratulate them both and wish them many years to come.

As always, thank you for allowing me to serve you. It is a true pleasure. If there is ever anything I can do for you, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at
