Hoping everyone had a Merry Christmas. We head into the New Year with whatever challenges lie ahead. It seems lately that nothing is what we consider normal. I’m sure this next year won’t be any different, but I believe we can pull together and get through it as we have in meeting past challenges.

One area that looks promising is our budget outlook. It looks like we may have close to $10 billion to appropriate this upcoming session. I believe rather than looking at where we can spend all this additional money, we should save as many of these dollars as we can. We all know this influx of cash from Washington cannot continue, and this will bring budget shortfalls in coming years.

I did have the opportunity to travel to Antlers and join most of our police officers in Southeast Oklahoma at OSBI’s annual Christmas dinner. I appreciate getting to visit with these officers in a casual setting. There will be some issues upcoming in this session pertaining to law enforcement, and I believe listening to the boots on the ground is the best way to inform my decisions.

Another topic in the upcoming session is vaccine mandates. We await the Supreme Court tackling this issue in early January. No matter what they decide, there will be several pieces of legislation aimed at protected individual freedoms.

As always, thanks for allowing me to serve. Never hesitate to contact my office if we can be of assistance. I can be reached at Jim.Grego@okhouse.gov or (405) 557-7381.
