Committee work is the name of the game this week at 23rd and Lincoln. I was able to pass my "Veteran's Families First," House Bill 3747, through committee. It is now ready be heard on the House floor. This bill would require the Oklahoma Veterans Commission to contract with private long-term, skilling nursing facilities to offer services to eligible veterans who live over 50 miles from a state veterans residence. This is particularly important for those veterans displaced with the closing of the Talihina Veterans Center.

This week I will present my House Bill 3749 in the Appropriations & Budget Committee. This bill would allow funding for the rehabilitation of the prison rodeo grounds in McAlester, so hopefully we can resume this time honored tradition.

The Governor has signed House Bill 1955, which will eliminate the state's portion of the grocery tax. Be aware that local sales taxes will still be applied. This tax relief will hopefully slow down somewhat our level of government growth.

Saturday evening, I attended the Latimer County Premium Sale held on the campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. It is always good to see so much community support for our youth. I want to give a special "Thank You" to Jenifer Woods and the Choctaw Nation.

This week, I gave a citation on the floor of the House of Representatives to Ava Rose Johnson, a sophomore from Kinta High School. Ava is a rising star in the indigenous music scene. She was awarded "Best Female Artist of the Year at the 20th Annual Native American Music Awards in 2022. Ava has written multiple songs, and they are all performing well nationally. This proves my theory that good things can come out of rural Oklahoma.

As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at
