“Digital car titles” seems to be the phrase of the week. I have had several requests from constituents requesting information about the how and why of such legislation.
The requirement for electronic titling was a component of the creation of Service Oklahoma that was accomplished a couple of years ago – an effort to make titling and licensing a more efficient process. It allowed the Oklahoma Tax Commission to move from paper titles to electronic titles to be held by lienholders. Service Oklahoma assures us that adequate security exists to protect the title and the lienholder, which seems to be one of the major objections. As always, I and other lawmakers will be looking into this issue a little further just to make sure the system is failsafe.
In other news, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is moving out of Oklahoma City and Tulsa and surrounding suburbs. I say congratulations, as we definitely have a need for their services in rural Oklahoma. This is a shift that is long overdue. I’ve always believed our major cities have adequate resources to patrol their own, a luxury we do not enjoy in my part of Oklahoma.
Congratulations to Wilburton’s Patricia Donoley on being named Future Business Leaders of America’s “Businessperson of the Year.” Patricia and her family are a mainstay in Latimer County, promoting and creating growth in any area in which they can find opportunity.
Speaking of Wilburton, come out from 6 to 8 p.m. this Friday evening, July 25, to the Goldberg & Joseph Heritage Pocket Park on Main Street as the Latimer County Arts Council is hosting an event. One of the most popular activities will be a chalk drawing contest for our youth. One of the judges may be a familiar face! Hope to see you then.
As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
