Understanding wireless verses fiber or in conjunction with fiber is this week’s newest topic. Chisholm Wireless came calling last week and explained to me how they would provide broadband services to our area of the state. I had been under the impression that every address would receive fiber at a reduced rate to fulfill the requirements of the billions of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars that flowed into Oklahoma. Chisholm’s plan is to install towers that are connected to fiber then go wireless into each home.  Whether this is better or worse I really don’t know. I just know this is not how I envisioned this happening. I also know their rates don’t appear any better than what many wireless companies now are charging, so I’m not sure how much of an improvement this will be.

I attended a celebration/fundraiser of sorts at McAlester Public Library last week. This organization reached out to me on numerous occasions asking for help in securing some funding for remodeling of the library.  We were never able to find a fit for any federal pandemic dollars flowing into our state. As often happens, local resilience came through without government assistance, and they are nearing their goal in order to remodel this 60-year-old structure. Congratulations to everyone involved in this massive undertaking.

I had the opportunity recently to swear in Latt Jeffrey to serve another sever-year term on Eastern Oklahoma State College’s Board of Regents. Latt is committed to improving Eastern. I’m confident this will be a successful term as well.

As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov
