State Rep. Jim Grego

By Rep. Jim Grego

I attended the public forum on the proposed data center to be located south of Kiowa. It was very interesting as well as informational. It was a large lively group with many questions and concerns voiced. I felt like one concern shared by many is over what the final tax structure will look like. The tax increment board will meet later this month to finalize this issue. I believe this massive cooperation is shopping all over the United States for the best deals they can negotiate. I’m convinced something will evolve in this area as all the ingredients are in place. No one can deny that the Highway 69 corridor is ripe for expansion and experiencing massive growth. Another public meeting will be held June 22. This issue is like every other political hot potato with the company presenting one scenario and the opposition presenting something very much different. As with most issues, the truth will lie somewhere in the middle.

It’s beginning to look like we will make it to primary election day this year, with early voting beginning this Thursday and continuing through Saturday. Election Day is June 16. This allows four days for in-person balloting. My hope is everyone will do their due diligence and vote. Also, take time to review State Question 832 as it will appear on your ballot. Sometimes these state questions appear daunting when you try to read them on the ballot. Please research in advance. The good news is maybe some of the negative advertising will cease for a little while or at least maybe until August runoffs get closer.

Flag Day is June 14, this Sunday. This is a holiday that seems to have received less attention as of late. This is a day to honor our flag and show our colors as we celebrate this holiday. This is also a day I say happy birthday Mr. President and to my sister Theresa. Fly your flags and celebrate this tradition.

As always, thank you for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.

Jim Grego serves District 17 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Latimer County and part and Pittsburg County.
